SCOOPER
1926 w 4th Avenue, KITS
Full Time or Part Time, Permanent
We're looking for a dedicated, positive ice cream lover to join our Rain or Shine family as a Scooper! This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people and wants to be part of a welcoming team environment.
Key responsibilities:
Time Management
Clock in and out accurately at the start and end of your shift.
Clock in breaks taken.
Arrive on time and ready to work (apron on, hair tied up, and hands washed at the start of your scheduled shift).
Customer Service
Greet every customer warmly:
“Hi, welcome to Rain or Shine!”
“Hi there, let me know if you’d like to try any flavours. We can offer two samples.”
“Hi, welcome to Rain or Shine. Have you been here before?”
“If you’re deciding between two flavours, but would prefer the single size, we offer a single scoop with two flavours!”
Always thank the customer for coming in and communicating that you hope they enjoy their ice cream.
Engage with customers by talking about product knowledge:
Ice cream flavours and their ingredients.
Housemade inclusions.
Local suppliers.
If you’re unsure about popular flavours, don’t say, “I don’t know.” Instead offer a confident answer even if it may be a lie.
Till & Payments
Confidently handle credit/debit payments, cash payments, and payments with gift cards.
Issue gift cards for customers if they would like to purchase them.
Scooping
Scoop ice cream for customers.
Ensure scoops are consistent in size and weight:
Avoid under-scooping or over-scooping.
Match scoop sizes with those of coworkers for uniformity.
Fulfill allergy requests as needed.
Waffle Cones
Make high-quality waffle cones and waffle tacos.
Clean the station thoroughly after use.
Store Cleanliness & Maintenance
Maintain cleanliness throughout the whole store:
Wipe down dirty surfaces.
Sweep and mop floors.
Dust and clean windows.
Address other cleanliness needs as they come up.
Stock front-of-house with:
Cups, spoons, cones, merch.
Ice cream tubs.
Keep the front pint freezer and back pint freezer stocked.
Dishwashing:
Be mindful of hot water usage (do not waste hot water).
Laundry:
Wash dirty aprons in half-full loads.
Hang to dry immediately after the load is finished.
Take out garbage and recycling regularly.
Health Standards
Meet food safety and health standards:
Wash hands before serving, after handling till & cash, after touching hair, face, etc.
Hair must be tied back.
Throw away expired products (milk, cream, etc.)
Prevent cross-contamination:
Remove any product that doesn’t belong in that specific tub flavour,
Removing scoops from the bottom of the dipping cabinet between deep cleans only while tubs are lidded and hair is tied back.
Enforce Store Policies Politely
No splitting order (single 2 into two cups, 1 milk shake into two cups etc)
No animals in store (except service animals).
No public washroom available (Cambie has a washroom available to staff and customers only).
No soliciting allowed.
No refunds on products (unless Rain or Shine is at fault).
Teamwork & Communication
Communicate with SLs and Managers:
Share ideas, concerns, and when going on break.
Ask the production team how you can help during slower periods and help them as needed.
Hold each other accountable:
Friendly reminders are encouraged for food safety, customer service, task management, scoop size, etc.
Be proactive:
Ask SLs or Managers what else needs to be done.
Keep an objective eye on store needs.
Shift Coverage & Scheduling
Submit availability on time
Once the schedule is published, you are responsible for covering your own shifts.
FIFO & Inventory
Practice FIFO (first in, first out)
Always use the oldest product first (check tubs, cream, milk, etc.)
Why is FIFO important?
Using the oldest product first ensures they don’t expire or spoil – this minimizes product loss, which saves money and reduces unnecessary waste.
Customers always get the freshest possible version of our product and prevents older stock from sitting too long, affecting flavour and texture.
Compliant with Food Safety standards.
